stripped a thread. What is done to repair it? Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Sun, 20 May 2012 18:51:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was taking out the car from storage and cleaned up the area around the batter (9-3 2001). I removed the metal plate under the battery. It was held with two bolts. I cleaned everything up and put it back in. Either the bolt was already poorly installed from the beginning, or I accidentally inserted it slightly offset. Whatever the case, it's done.
The part that was stripped is actually part of the car. So, I can't just replace it; it needs repairing. For now, thankfully I was able to put the screw in and it is making enough contact to keep things in place.
How big of a deal is it to rethread? I've no experience with this. Better maybe to take it to a specialized shop? Can I still use the same bolt, or will one of a bigger radius be required? I hope it's a simple thing to do.
Thanks for your experienced comments (as always) !
Bender.
