The midsized utes are a compromise at best--you'd probably better off going for a Suburban for the small difference in fuel economy. Our daughter has one for her four kids. I can remember taking my wife and I, her and her four kids, and a weekends worth of luggage for all on a winter trip. We all fit in with ease and it just shrugged off the snow and icey roads. If you have a load to haul it's a hard vehicle to beat. A minivan would still be the ideal, but a Suburban would run a close second. Hopefully you could have something else to commute with.
