I'm a big proponent of "you get what you pay for"
I've used Ben Moore paint/primer on bare drywall, and it worked fine for the small space I did. If anything, it just seemed like the paint was thicker. 3 coats did the trick.
In most cases, you are going to be painting the same amount weather you use primer or not. 1 coat primer, 2 coats paint vs. 3 coats of the combo stuff.
I haven't had much faith in Valspar, just due to needing more coats than Ben Moore or Sherwin Williams.
