OT: Household electrical question

I've got a little situation.
A chandelier that is controlled by two switches: a dimmer switch and a single switch that is located across the room. I replaced the dimmer only 2 months ago. It has worked perfectly on its own, and in concert with the other switch.
Today I replaced the single switch with a new one. Now things are different! The dimmer won't turn on the light unless the single switch is in the "on" position. Also, the dimmer won't dim at all. Just on and off.
Advice? Thanks.
