So very likely politics played a huge role with the various divisions - all jockeying for pieces of the pie for development marketing etc. Some win and some lose and likely the exec who made the decison to buy Saab in the 1st place was long gone when the market started to take a downturn and available monies started to tighten and if the new head honcho at the time had no loyalty to Saab - well then that product line gets a lot of lip service and little else. Look at some of the lightweights GM put in charge of running Saab. Bona fide corporate cheer leader type of guys and not much else, I remember one guy saying how much he liked and understood Saab because his wife once drove one.
