very good point on the range... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Fri, 15 Feb 2013 07:17:51 In Reply to: Re: I am not happy with the NYT, Tim, Thu, 14 Feb 2013 17:58:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Though I could go a long way on a tank in the 9-5, I also try to refill at half a tank or thereabouts to go easy on the fuel pump... never mind that I haven't pulled the broken anti-slosh baffle out so the fuel gauge gets stuck if I go much below half... ha!
I think the issue is more that a 1hr stop every 200 miles is an impediment, whereas a 5 min stop at the same interval is more bearable.
But like you say, a 200 mile range for general city area commuting, trips, etc is great - I could drive to the hills/country for skiing etc and back on "a tank", so we could easily operate with a Tesla S except for the long haul drives for vacation. A rental in that situation has merits even with a gasoline driven car. That the Tesla is a hatchback in the vein of the 9000 is very appealing. I would be happy to see Saab make something along those lines... I don't see the point in some people's angst vs this car. It is what it is: certainly not for everyone, but I think more and more people are going to be interested in something like that in the coming years.
