early adopter pricing... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Sun, 17 Feb 2013 18:47:29 In Reply to: Re: CNN's Tesla S test drive, jeff in MD, Sun, 17 Feb 2013 14:32:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
as someone else pointed out earlier (probably Tim?), it's not vastly different than the $10k IBM PC of the early '80's... and for some, paying that made a whole lot of sense... but not for the masses who either didn't buy computers, or owned a Commodore 64 etc...
A Tesla isn't necessarily a rich person's toy any more than an early PC... it's more what meets one's needs... maybe for someone, $60k on a base Tesla appeals more than owning 2 honda accords (or whatever)... if it met most of that family's driving needs, I could see that as reasonable... obviously for some that do a lot of long haul travel, it would not work well...
I like the looks/form etc of the S quite a bit, but I think there will be better value options in a few years, even from Tesla... One thing I might wonder about it is how the real world safety stacks up when compared to Saab and Volvo... I'm interested to see what comes out of Sweden (and to some extent, Germany) in the next couple years...
