Technology? Posted by ELaw [Email] (#699) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ELaw) on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 09:29:43 In Reply to: Honda develops technology to make cars lighter, JohnA [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 18 Feb 2013 14:29:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I own a 1990's Saab and Audi, both weigh just a little over 3,000 pounds.
IMHO this is because of the technology they do *not* have such as:
* DVD entertainment system for every possible occupant of the car, including one in the trunk in case I want to kidnap someone.
* 6-way power-adjustable license-plate frames with remote and memory.
* 137 airbags.
* 48" rims with 10-series tires.
* A sophisticated computerized system to divert the car in case I decide to try to drive it into a utility pole.
Heck, the Audi doesn't even have central locking! Somehow I have managed to become adept at locking and unlocking the car by inserting a thing called a "key" into another thing called a "lock" and rotating it about 90 degrees in either direction.
Sorry for the cynicism, but I find it pretty ironic that they have to develop special technology to offset the weight (and associated efficiency) penalties caused by all the other "special technology" they've designed into modern cars.
;^)
