I agree with all of this - the insurance is a good point also, in part because saabs are so safe.
Most of the NG900's do not have turbos, are completely worthless, fairly safe (if not rust infested) and the last couple years (97/98) were quite reliable. That's probably where I would look first (well, I would look for a c900, but they are getting harder to find)... the NA NG900's have a little more power than the c900 NA's, some of which are a little lacking getting on the highway...
Older 9-5's are very safe and almost as dirt cheap now, but maintenance costs are probably going to be higher than a late NG900 or c900... 9000 might be a better bet?
Other suggestion is skip the car and get a really nice bike! that's what I did at that age...
