Insurance and minimal coverage. Anyone do this? Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Sat, 4 May 2013 20:17:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I drive a lovely Viggen that I love very much. It's worth a lot to me, but it's probably worth little to the insurance company. I drive it in the spring and summer and fall only. I am about to put it in the insurance for the driving season, but asked myself why the hell I opt to pay so much. What's the point?
If I get in an accident and it's my fault, I'd need their car to be taken care of via insurance, but my car? I'll fix that myself if I _can_ if it's not totalled. And if I have insurance, they'll give me a check? I have no idea how it works, but this is a rare event for me to happen.
If someone rear-ends me? Not-at-fault collision? No amount of money the insurance company will pay me will ever bring my car back to the condition it's in now. Furthermore, from experience in the past, the shops they send you to don't necessarily do a good job. The so called "Saab" dealership here did the worst paint job EVER. I've come to not trust anyone and want to source and my own people to find the best. I can't do that with the insurance company.
So, all in all, what am I paying for? It seems like I'm wasting my money and I should put the money I would have paid the insurance company to the side and save it.
Is my thinking on the right track? What does the absolute-minimal-required-by-law coverage give me?
Hope I can do something rational with this.
Thanks for your comments as always!
