In Ontario, there is direct compensation, I guess as a way to reduce court time an cost... basically you pay the % you are at fault and the other guy does pay collision on your vehicle for the part he is at fault even if you don't have comprehensive yourself. But because of this, if you drive a nicer vehicle that might be more expensive to fix, you pay more for the basic insurance. You may find for the viggen (like our 9-5) that the difference associated with doing this is quite small, maybe $100/y. So we have so far left comprehensive on the 9-5 (2004).
otoh, we do not have it on the c900's - they are minimally insured, but iirc, the minimum liability here is $1 million... or at least I wouldn't go lower than that myself. c900's are very cheap to insure. I was surprised that the 9-5 was so much more even though it is safer, but basically it is due to higher repair costs (that you can't remove due to direct compensation)...
the cheapest insurance by far is agreed value historic vehicle insurance and many c900 owners do this, but a viggen is probably not old enough, and you probably want to drive it more than look at it (there are very restrictive rules, ie you can't drive it to work, or the mall, etc).
talk to your insurance company and see what the differential is for basic vs comprehensive...
