The size of the tank is usually based on the number of bedrooms in the house. They started using the filters in 2000 when ours was built, that keeps the solids from migrating to the leaching field and will extend the life of the field. However, we have found that the filter gets clogged and thus the tank needs to be pumped every 24 months. We found this out the hard way :) Our town requires it to be pumped at least every 5 years, the pumping company pulls a permit from the town to do it and they know where the access is. As for the asphalt driveway, it will survive just fine.
