1) The 2000 MY 9-5 DID have puddle lighting and floor lighting. Perhaps the lamps are burned out or sockets corroded to being non-functional on your car due to its age.

2) The 9-5 WAS praised by the automotive and consumer press as being a Top Ten car when it was first introduced.

Both of those points can be proven.

The other point that can be debated, but that I firmly believe, was that GM starved Saab to promote its other brands in the US and globally. Shoot, my wife's 9-3SC cost less than a Chevy Malibu when we bought it because GM had no idea what to do with the Saab brand, and under pricing the cars bled the Swedish subsidiary to death. GM stole Saab's technological knowledge regarding turbo-charging small displacement engines.
