These two generally are considered the leaders and perform noticeably better than their peers which is rather important when avoiding speed traps. They are also the most expensive. Passport 8500 is cheaper than the Valentine but doesn't show you the direction the radar signal comes from. I bought an 8500 10 years ago and have been very happy with it. With laser unless the cop shot the car in front of you setting off your detector, if you hear that alarm its just an early warning of your impending speeding ticket. I haven't had a speeding ticket in 30 years BTW. Couple warnings though. And don't forget to pull the detector off the window if you get pulled over as you won't get just a warning if the cop sees it.
