I lived for a while on an outside curve and lost quite a few mailboxes and never heard from anyone offering to repair the damage. I put a couple of large (2'x2') "decorative" stones down on either side of the driveway, one near the mailbox. Well it did the trick and the last person who hit the mailbox drove the stone 6 feet, wiped out the mailbox and left a lot of plastic behind from their car. The next day a young man and his father came to the door to apologize and let me know they would be replacing the mailbox. I guess with all the evidence laying all over my lawn it was pretty clear the kid was not in control of his new Mustang. :-)
