that many of the tests are with vehicles of the same weight class. So a Camry or Accord is tested in collisions with similar cars. A Mini is in tested with a Fiat 500, or Chevy Aveo.
Real world, the Camry or Mini or Suby Impreza is in an accident with a minivan, a Denali XL, or F-250 Super Duty.
The tests are interesting but I'm not sure they really tell a lot, except in general terms.
This particular test is just the car against a solid object. That's probably more useful and realistic.
Another thing is that cars today are designed to fold up and keep the passenger cage intact. So a car can be really mashed and people will still be alive. Hurt, but alive. But whatever, you want to be in a car that can take a hit. One of the reasons my wife and kids are in Saabs.
