Too bad that happened. We're all at the mercy of power-hungry wannabes in uniform. Don't have a solution.
I got similar treatment from the Canadian side years ago when they stripped my Explorer looking for a can of pepper spray I said several times did not exist. [And some friends from Detroit got 'digitally checked' going in to Windsor one time. But you know what? Those Canadians were right to be suspicious!]
Anyway, I got similar treatment driving into Alaska from Beaver Creek in the early-90s. A bored US border guard looking for some entertainment decided I had an hour to waste while he went through my car and camping gear in minute detail. File it under 'get a life.'
Nothing beats the time the East Germans were unhappy I got on the wrong train from Berlin on my way to Sweden and I had a bunch of OstMarks in my pocket. Oops! Now THAT was stressful...
