I've never subscribed to that particular philosophy, it is a very slippery slope indeed. (Though I don't want to get into dangerous political territory here, so won't start arguing over the proper role of government. :-)

GM should have been treated to a bog-standard Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the same as you or I would have if our businesses needed restructuring to survive. (We are supposed to all have equality before the law, not special privileges for those entities deemed "too big to fail.") It would not have been the end of the U.S. auto industry. Many companies have gone into Chapter 11 reorganization and emerged leaner and stronger.

As I said, I personally would not consider a GM product if at some point I decide to purchase a new car as they've already stolen money out of my wallet. What others do of course is their own business...
