Not trying to highjack the thread but I have an issue with so-called 'renewables,' especially solar and wind farms.
Here in my little piece of the Southern California high desert they just industrialized about 10 sq miles of beautiful mountain foothill grasslands for a wind mill farm. Instead of a beautiful sunset view over the Tehachapis, we now get miles of flashing red lights on towers.
And they've installed several solar panel farms out here and, because you can't have burnable grass under the panels lest they be destroyed in a grass fire, we now have much, much more wind blown dust almost as if there's a dry lake where there wasn't one before.
I'm all for solar on individual homes and the occasional windmill to run a pump but the industrialization on a vast scale of these technologies have negative consequences for the land and for those who live adjacent to them. Give me a gas-fired plant or evena nuke anyday.
[Scott - if this is too political just delete]
