1) On price helps to read the footnotes. The price is the wholesale not retail, and I'm guessing not reflecting stainless steel. Plus is US made only appliances. Due to the shipping costs many appliances are still made in the US (although increasingly more in Mexico) with the majority of stuff coming in from overseas the higher price points items where the shipping costs can be better absorbed.
2) On longevity lots of people are referencing their own older model appliances as proof the old stuff was better… considering it's a completely not statistically relevant sample, it's anecdotal at best.
3) On total cost, considering an 'average' 2010 vs an 'average' 1975 costs almost 1/3rd the price, even if it lasts 1/3 as long one is likely a head as it also uses 1/3 the energy.
