so true GM lawyers are counting on chapter 11 bankruptcy protection - but already cases have been filed which assert that GM didn't fully disclose the liabilities involved - and the investigations would seem to at least support that GM knew more than it disclosed in 2009.
Legal experts seemed to be divided as to whether GM will ultimately be protected under their 2009 bankruptcy. Who knows how long it will take for the courts to decide. GM of course is hoping victims or their kin simply settle out of court.
But I think Washington is trying to do it's best to try and allow GM to maintain immunity under the bankruptcy.
It's a pretty complex issue to sort thru.
