I used to frequent mtbr.com, they have a sister site, roadbikereview.com
Did the spoke break or the nipple? If the spoke, was it at the J-bend or at the threads? Your answer would determine what I would do, but assuming a somewhat-typical spoke break at the J-bend I would replace it, then "stress relieve" the spokes- that is when additional spokes would break if there are issues with spoke fatigue.
I would be *more* concerned with how much life is left in your rims: assuming a rim-brake equipped bike, the braking surface will wear and eventually will wear out. If you take your hand and touch the rim with your thumb on one side and a finger on the other you can tell if the braking surfaces are flat or concave from wear. A little is OK, if it seems excessive I would consider either rebuilding or replacing the wheels. Catastrophic rim failure from wear isn't pretty.
I would only consider carrying spare spokes if I was doing some serious touring.
