Yeah, but 112 miles of biking preceded by 2 and half miles of swimming and then followed by a marathon is a whole heck of a lot harder than biking alone! Different muscle groups, flexibility needs etc for the different sports. Much tougher!

I think whether or not you rebuild or replace the wheel should depend on it's condition and the rest of the bike. Might be a good opportunity to upgrade wheels if the old ones are getting beat up and it would be worthwhile to do so. I never carry spokes, but I do carry a tube and tools. Then again I'm mainly a mountain biker so what do I know! ha! Last time I broke a spoke, I bent it around the others and then did a long technical ride.
