Sears started slipping away years ago. Had a friend that was a V.P. of their home store - he dreaded being there - said it was the worse employment decision of his life.

Then Lampert bought Sears - he was interested in their owned property - nothing else - just bean counters running the company now.

U.S. retailers are always interested in selling products for less - Sears is not alone in this plan. The retailers are always looking to 'drive' business and they do it with lower prices - putting pressures on suppliers (which I am one of) to give them lower prices without any thought to the quality of product. The products I sell are all made in foreign countries - mostly China and India. Some of the product is okay, some is great - the only retailers that buy great are small retailers. There is very little selection of most products today - it sickens me. Cause I like many others want products that will last.

I find it pretty humorous that now brick and mortar retailers are complaining about less people "visiting" them. People counters are telling us that in store traffic is off over 5% at most retailers. They all need to look in the mirror to see who is at fault - it's the bean counters, the real merchants are gone.

My last major appliance purchase is when we moved into a new home a couple of years ago. We made a mistake, some of the appliances were included in on the purchase price - they were all GE, so we thought 'why not buy other GE products.' We purchased GE's higher end Profile series and each one is pure crap. This same scenario holds true for most products purchased today - they're crap, won't last.
