I bought a water heater from them three years ago, and installed it myself. After two years, the gas valve failed. I called customer service and was given a service date for two weeks hence (they don't even give you a time until the night before, when they give you a 4 hour window, so unless you work from home you have to book that day off from work). Two weeks without hot water... at least it wasn't winter. I told them what the failure was and they assured me the technician would have that part with him. Of course, he didn't, said it would be another couple of weeks. I kind of blew my stack, and he somehow managed to scrounge one up and come back the same day. I had to pay about $110 for labour for that, since the warranty only covered parts. One year later, the same part failed. Again I was told it would be two weeks before anyone could come out, and again I was assured he would have the part with him; I explained what happened last time and was assured that would not happen again. Well, he arrives and guess what? No part. This time it's a 3 week wait, and no amount of complaining changes it. 5 weeks without hot water, and this time it costs me $188 for this in-warranty repair because the guy took an hour to install it instead of 15 minutes that the previous guy took. Needless to say, will never buy anything from Sears again, and the next time the hot water heater goes I'll just replace it. Sears is in big trouble financially here in Canada, and I can't say I'll be sad when the inevitable happens.
