I had 3 guys from U-Verse come to my house about a year ago and tell me how great AT&T's fiber optic internet system is. I immediately asked them where the fiber optic cable was since there hasn't been any construction in my neighborhood for over 10 years. They repeated that it was fiber to the house, and I asked them to show it to me.

It turns out, that they (like many other service providers) do de-muxing (down-converting from fiber to coax speeds) and then run coax to your house - just like Road Runner and other service providers do. Then I asked where their $100 township permits were to go door-to-door for sales. As it turns out, they were all contract employees who had no training in telecommunications. I guess that my 37+ years experience turned them off a little. Hopefully, they went back to their McDonalds jobs.

BTW, have you seen the new advertisement for AT&T LTE service with that goofy foreign guy? Do a Google search and you will see that all LTE does is increase the data speed (3G to 4G speeds) between cell site and mobile device. No where does it increase the distance that a mobile device can communicate with a cell site,. After all, increasing the power at the cell site does not increase the power from the mobile device. That is fixed by the mobile unit... Ron
