I'd go with the winter tire option. It is nice having winter tires on alloys rather than steels. If you are concerned about the temporary wheels and would rather have a full size spare, throw a spare winter wheel in each car in summer and a spare summer tire in each car for winter. Not perfect, but will serve the purpose of nursing a car home.

You won't get a lot of $$ for basic Saab alloys, so I would try to make good use of them. FWIW, I still have original spares in my 1989 and 1993 c900's and I've certainly used the one in the 1993 when the car was 15 years old (like your 2000) with no issues. Of course that does not guarantee success, but I think the tire age thing is over-rated and for liability/sales reasons, but if you carefully inspect your tires regularly, you can get more lifetime out of them if tread depth is still good.
