That seems to be what a lot of companies now are saying... all the German ones in particular.
I think part of it is the "low tension" piston rings they're putting in newer engines to improve fuel economy.
Next will be no piston rings at all. You'll have to add a quart of oil every time you fill the gas tank and there will always be a huge cloud of smoke behind the car, but you'll get 0.5 MPG more! ;^)
