Don't know why, there is no logical or sensual reason why I should prefer my beater sun-faded '99 9-5 SE to my sexy shiny red '04 9-5 Aero w/ MT and ventilated seats which is garage-kept and still shy of 100k mi.

But when I think about it, the reason probably has everything to do with the fact that the '99 has been with my through nearly 18 years of my adult life. Like me, it started out shiny, sleek and new. Now like me it's tired and beat but still in pretty decent running shape, all things considered, AND NOT READY TO QUIT JUST YET. Like me, it's been laid off/out of commission for an extended hiatus but is now back for a big finish. When I acquired it, I was still single but now have 11 years of marriage under my belt. It's a metaphor of how my life is, not how I wish it could sometimes be, and that feels honest to me. It's my daily driver, and now I'm chewing up the road with it to the tune of 175 miles daily. I should blast through 200k mi in a few months.

The '04 will be the new girl in the wings, and I'm sure I'll enjoy applying some mild performance mods to it when I have extra time... something I would never consider doing to the '99. But I'm in no particular hurry to get started.

Happy Birthday, TSN! Thank you Scott for keeping this truly extraordinary site alive and still relevant. And to my fellow members, thanks for your postings, advice and good humor through the years.
