Midnight blue, four speed, no A/C, no power windows, locks, steering ... the brakes were the only 'power' item on the car.

So easy to replace the voltage regulator. A bit of a challenge to change the oil filter without a spill. Often wishing for a fifth gear on the Interstate at 75 mph.

Simple, durable, reliable [had a loss of power twice on long drives into O'Hare from Wisconsin: kept the revs up, slipping it in first. One time was a shattered distributor rotor, ok, spare in the trunk. The other time: limped all the way home, 90 min, running on three cylinders: found out it was a broken valve spring!)

Summers in south Texas had me wishing for AC, but not enough to sell it after having it seven years. Mice in the heater box [parking outside our rural WI house] plus a replacement commuter car '87 9000 [and realizing it'd mostly be sitting in the driveway, waiting three years for our oldest son to turn 16] led me to sell it. A small bidding war ensued, as the prospect of a one-owner, with plenty of service records, motivated a few Saab fans from the upper midwest.

Hope it's still going strong.

Sincerely,

John

'80 99 sold after 20 years/192,000mi
'86 9kT sold after 12 years/approx 121,000 mi
'87 9kT sold after 9 years/approx 174,000 mi
'97 CSE given to my son after 8 years @ 245k; he sold it at 254k mi
Still driving:
'95 Aero 143,xxx mi for my daughters to drive
'97 Aero 296,xxx mi wife's daily driver
'98 CSE 234,xxx mi for my daughters to drive

and a couple of 'non-Saabs':

'03 BMW 330 Cic 74,xxx mi

PS '97 Aero is a very close second, for all the reasons any 9000 owner knows. It's at O'Hare right now, in the parking lot as I'm gone on a six-day trip. Springs/struts are worn, but on a semi-smooth highway, it's doing fine ...
