I personally have no interest in "reducing carbon footprint" - I see no reason to do that and it does not figure into any of my decisions. My only concern with a hybrid would be whether it is actually cheaper to run overall as an older used vehicle than a gasoline-powered car like an old Saab. That's the bottom line. (Probably best in a city where you're in stop and go traffic all the time, that seems to be where hybrids shine. I've frequently seen them in urban taxi service and taxi companies are very good at figuring cost per mile.)
