I'm a NYer - for me a NY EZ-Pass was a no-brainer when I had a daily commute using the Tappan Zee Bridge (now replaced by the Mario M Cuomo) Bridge -- with a commutation plan, I paid $3 a trip (charge only one-way) instead of $5 for many years.
Even though I don't do that commute any more, there are enough bridges around the NYC area that give a decent break for NY EZ-pass holders (rather than being billed by the cashless toll) that it would still be worthwhile if they started charging me a fee (I have 2 tags - no deposit, no monthly fee)
It will be interesting to see what the new TZB (it will always be the Tappan Zee to locals!) toll will go up to eventually as they figure out how to pay for the bridge.
