Well, I'm usually on here scouring for answers to the latest malady that one of my 900s brought to me. The troubles are few and far between these days, and I'm enjoying them. I'm a car guy that's made a living as an autobody tech for 42 years. I guess you could say I know cars pretty well by this point. As well as I knew cars, I liked SAABs long before I understood them. When my first 900, a 1989 c900 vert with 98K on the clock gave me my first problem, I went looking into exactly how to repair it. The alternator had gone bad. SAAB didn't exactly put a lot of thought into "servicing the alternator in the field" on the 900 model. Even with all the car stuff I knew...this car was different. I went searching the net as we all do and found Scott's page here...and it saved the day.
That was back in 1998. 22 years ago. Since that first visit all those years ago, I can't possibly count how many times I've been back...how many, "Unusual" problems I needed the solution to...how many selfless board members and just plain knowledgeable SAAB owners gave their time in making a response that could actually be helping someone on another continent, let alone their own town. I've learned so much from this page. You know the saying, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for life. This site should have that as a mantra. It is that type of environment that exists here. Not being a member, I don't know if all the members have a conversational relationship with Scott through this site, but he really has been and continues to be a beacon in this (now) "Hobby".
22 years ago these were my every day/every weather transportation mode. Now the two I have don't see bad weather or winters. I drive them but I protect them. They are beautiful cars and I want to keep them as long as I'm able to drive on this earth. To accomplish that, this page is absolutely necessary moving forward. As I said, I've been patrolling these pages for twenty-two years and at least on the 900 board, I don't see too many people make mention of just how valuable this site and archive are to our community. The SAAB community...and I thought he was a bit overdue. I could not have stayed involved with SAAB without this page. It's that simple. I'm really only trying to give a heartfelt, Thank You to Scott. I could not have done this without your efforts to maintain this community. What a godsend it has been. What a debt we all owe you.. I cannot overstate that enough.
The reason I wrote tonight is because for some reason it caught my attention tonight when looking thru favorites on my PC, and there was the tag I've been calling this site since it saved my ass that first time 22 years ago..., "The SAAB Bible" I click that icon and I'm transported to the world of the SAAB 900. It has indeed been my savior over the years. Thank you Scott. I hope you live a long and healthy life... or have kiddos to carry this on....because I plan on needing it for another 22... Cheers, Bob
