This trend is even getting into coffee makers. They replaced the pod coffeemakers where I work with a newer version that has a touchscreen. The old one required pressing 2 physical buttons to make a cup of coffee: One to open the door for the pod, and one for brew strength.
The replacement coffee maker requires one press to wake up the touchscreen, one press to let it know that you want coffee, one press to let it know that you want *hot* coffee. Then it opens the door for the pod. Following that, it requires a press to indicate what you want for coffee strength: weak, almost adequate, or mostly adequate (my wording).
Fortunately, this situation doesn't require eyes-on-the-road for safety.
(And I'm an automation engineer. *sigh*)
There was a joke about this trend several years ago ....
