One of DEC's mistakes. They thought they had the market clout to move people away from the IBM PC with a technically superior product that was not compatible. They didn't. (Marketing was never one of the company's strong points.) I remember at least at first you couldn't format diskettes on the Rainbow, you had to buy them factory formatted. For a while I had a Pro 350 which at first glance looked like a Rainbow but was a Micro PDP-11 inside.
