I have a couple c900's, and you will get more info if you ask on the c900 bb... They are awesome cars, however, time has marched on. At this point, they are more or less collectors items. They can be used as daily drivers, but most that have been used that way are fairly used up (even though they can go for many miles). Nice ones sell for a lot because they are rare. Rust is an issue now on probably just about any from the salt belt. Transmissions, both standard and automatic, are fragile, but the automatics in particular are hard to deal with, fragile, and only 3 speeds, which means high revs on the highway and not great fuel economy as a result. They really needed an extra gear! Changing the tranny means pulling the whole engine out - a ton of labour. Usually, swapping in a stick is the way to go if an autobox fails.

They are really fun cars, but probably not the best if you only have 1 car and are dependent on it (I have 4 Saabs, 2 of which are much newer). The newest c900s are almost 30 years old now!

The GM era SAABs have a fair bit of good qualities, are cheaper to buy, and easier to repair/maintain at this point, if you are very keen to get into saabs. The og9-3 or 9-5 would be what I would look for. The automatics in those cars are very reliable. ng9-3 is also a great car, but drops a few of the older saab characteristics.
