Thanks for your note. There are plenty of nice, rust-free Saabs out there in the western and southern US, but locally, we are down to one Saab master tech, who only works at a local shop 2 days per week. He's probably as old as I am (senior citizen), and if he should decide to retire, well, that's it. The local Saab "whisperer" retired, shut his doors and left without any notice to his customers at all. He had maybe 20 donor cars on his lot, so was able to do things that are just not possible or economical using only new parts.
Personally, I think most newer cars are kind of ugly. I don't want to drive any kind of SUV. I have been researching Volvo sedans and smaller wagons, and with the right trim level and engine/tuning combinations, I think they're very Saab-like. Plenty of local repair shops work on them, as my little "research" project of talking to local Volvo owners has shown.
I dunno about the oil spray. Volvos have a 10-year guarantee against rusting.
Around here (western NY State, in the heart of the Rust Belt), used car prices seem to be going down rapidly. For me, a five year old Volvo from a southern state would be fine. I'd go for one with the right options and not too much mileage on the odo.
