Yeah I have a fuel pump and a dic and some other parts in the trunk along with a tool kit on long trips. That said, our Saab Indy said that 04/05 seem to have fewer fuel pump failures, but I'd hate to get stranded. It is always a risk, and I can't bring every possible part with me that could fail and it can easily be a week to get stuff here. We often do 14 hour drives in one day through rural Canada. It's mostly trees and it's not exactly warm this time of year to fix stuff at the side of the road haha...
I was doing great until our Saab Indy closed as we would get them to do a check over a week or two ahead of a trip. Without a Saab specialist around, I have less confidence so we are looking for a good somewhat newer Volvo for the long haul stuff (Volvo techs are more plentiful here)... Kids are learning to drive now, so the old Saabs are perfect for that!
