unless she likes to off road, there's no reason to buy another SUV. Don't clog up the roads!
I'd look long and hard at the Ford Focus and the new Subaru Imprezza. Maybe consider some Hyundais, as they are very well made vehicles.
If you go for something a little nicer, Ford's Taurus is a great car. Mercury's Sable is similar, but a little more upscale in appearance. From personal experience, let me assure you that Mercury sales and service is significantly better than Ford.
You can get a decked Taurus for something like $24K... that's a really nice car for the money. Sometimes makes me wonder why I drive a $32K Saab. The Ford gives you more tangible features for the money. Not nearly as fun as the Saab, though!
