the Cherokee. While the SUV craze has gotten way out of hand (why do people have 4wd monsters in Phoenix, where it never snows and hardly ever rains?), there are valid reasons for some SUVs. In particular, if you are in a snowy area and want to haul you, your wife/husband, your two kids, and your dog somewhere, the Cherokee is a good vehicle to do it in. You could say, "Why not an Avant?" But, most Avants are much more expensive than the Cherokee and really weren't anywhere to be found 10 or even 5 years ago. Plus, they don't offer all wheel drive or 4wd, unless you spend some big bucks. Subaru is an exception, but they've really only become popular recently. The Cherokee is also a good vehicle if you go offroad, which some people actually do. I've been offroad several times, and it's quite fun. Plus, some people hunt/fish/camp at places where you have to have an SUV.
I personally would buy an avant, but then I can afford an expensive awd avant while many people cannot.
