Steve: that was not that bad a rant. Thanks for not gouging my eyes out linguistically,if you know what I mean. I also agree with you that in times of light traffic, there is no reason to STAY in the left lane, but only to use it to pass someone. My definition of pass, however, is that I pull out, pass the slower vehicle, then return to enther the right or center lane. My point in the prior "rant", was that in times of steady heavy traffic( and lord knows,if like me, you live in metro Boston,it's always like that), someone who just stays left and keeps flashing everyone to get out of his way will get absolutely no sympathy from me. On many occasions when this type of driver was tailgating me,which they usually do, I have not hesitated to dial the state police and give them a plate number, location, and heading, and tell them that the driver dehind is driving in an erratic and dangerous manner.
As to your point about it not being my right to tell you you an't speed, you are sort of correct,in that it is not my right to tell you that you can't. But on the other hand, I also feel I have no oobligation to you to vacate my positon on the road just cause you say "comin through". If the road is wide open, I would not be in the left lane in the first place, but if it's the usual three lane heavy traffic that we have here, you can hold your horses back just like me.
Not meant in a disparaging manner, but I presume you see my point. When traffic is steady and heavy, there is no reason for many to have to move over to let one or two hot dogs through.
By the way, while you are right about getting a ticket at three in the morning for staying in the left lane when not needed, I strongly disagree with you about that policy or law as it applies to everyday rush hour traffic. I had a Mass State Trooper behind me for about 20 miles today on the way to Boston,in the left lane, and even he was in no hurry to shoo everyone out of his way. YOu will not get a ticket under circumstances like this. Three in the norning, and no one out there, if he pulls you over for hanging out in the fast lane, youwill also get DIWI'd as well.
Rant over,I guess.
