JP: You have misinterreted my comments. I did not say I am staying in the left lane and "knowingly blocking" someone, simply that in times of heavy traffic, all lanes of a major highway are used by everyone to travel at the posted speed limit, and some hot dog who is basically trying to get everyone to move out of his way will not get me to do so. In times of light traffic, I'm not out there in the first place, unless passing someone.
After passing, I return to the right lane.
I think that many who read this are going to confuse the scenarios that I am talking about and over react. My point was that in times of heavy steady traffic, when everyone is just trying to get down the road, the left lane is just another travel lane, and to ask everyone to get out of it so some hot dog can speed is not in the cards for me. This is not to be confused with times of light traffic, where if someone wants to temp the laws of physics, traction, and law enforcement,I say they can have their rightfully earned ticket. In fact, the last thing I would want to do is stop them from getting it.
Ther is a time for getting on the hammer and feeling the sensation of high speed and performance, and I also enjoy it. But when it comes to most general driving, especially during high traffic volume conditions, or in poor weather, I cannot justify compressing three lanes of travel down to two, just to let some stupid hot dog hav exclusive use of the left lane.
By the way, I am not a law officer of any kind. But perhaps you should ask one who is, and describe the traffic conditions that I did, and ask if they think that the left lane is just for passing. I'll bet I know the answer.
