At least my wife & kids know how to use "that clutch thing". Both my daughters were worried when they had to take drivers ed. They thought they wouldn't know how to work an automatic transmission...
Just in case Andrew L notices that this is getting off the subject of his original inquiry, I'm a mechanical/thermal/fluids engineer & I'll recommend engineering since he says he's good in math & science. However, I'll agree with others in this thread: communications skills are important!
