Small cars with big wheels

Is it just me or does a Jetta with 17" wheels look like a toy? In general, bigger wheels look better, but when you put them on a vehicle with a small body-side profile, short wheelbase, it starts to look ridiculous. At the other extreme are vehicles that look more like skateboards with small overall wheel/tire diameter and a long wheelbase.
My 97 900S has 15" wheels that are almost too small but they're bearable. If I didn't live in the Detroit area with all the potholes, I would probably upgrade to 16 inchers.
Just curious what you all think,
Atul
