One more question about alternator

I was reading a little bit about electricity last night and I think I now understand the actual flow of it. Electrons moving through the circuit trying to get positive and all that jazz.
So my question is, does an alternator put out single electrons which then flow back to the positive side of the battery?
If so, when the battery starts receiving this flow of electrons in the positive terminal, is this where the chemical reaction starts and the battery then makes more electrons on the negative side of the batter?
Sometimes I wish I took more physics in college!
