When I was T-boned by a Olds Toronado in my 9-3, they gave me a Volvo XC wagon as a rental. I didn't ask for it. It handled badly, was loosely connected to the road, was scary slow (was not the T5), and it kept breaking.
When the check engine light came on, that was the final straw. I went by the rental place and they gave me another Volvo wagon that was not the XC. With just a few hundred miles on it, interior parts were coming loose and the check engine light came on in THAT one as well.
This was not a confidence inspiring automobile. My friend who is a Volvo fan but doesn't have one was confused to see my wife and I fighting over who HAD to drive it. After the check engine light came on in the 2nd Volvo, they gave me a Cherokee to drive. I was embarrassed to be in an SUV but it actually handled better than the Volvo and was more connected to the road if you can believe it. I kept that for the remainder of my rental.
When it came time to buy a fancier car for my wife, the Saab 9-5 Aero wagon was a perfect fit. One look at her smiling face after getting out of the Saab told me I'd be spending some money very soon. :)
ps. Both Volvos were not very good in the rain which surprised me. Maybe it was the Continental tires or tire pressure. Who knows. I don't want to think about it.
