Out of wagon for 3rd row ,the Mercedes would be the safest, but the middle or the front row seat still would be the safety place in a rear end crash. My mom has a Mercedes wagon; its great for hauling kids around, but if the car is full with 7 passengers and you need luggage pass, than thing will be tight. With the 3rd row seat down there goes your cargo space. So if the wagon is your choice, I would suggest a cargo rack for the roof. For 2003 Mercedes is not offering a wagon until the end of year because of the new E class model sedan has just come out. So if you need one now, there are probably some 2002 still hanging around. My parents are fairly pleased with it, we use to have the old 300 te before a dump truck hit. Everyone was fine, it a tank. The quality is not what it use to be like the old Benz. We had a few things break and had some stranger electrical problem, but it never left us stranded.
If you have any question on the wagon fill free to email me.
Merry Christmas
Cameron
