It is interesting to hear the viewpoint of somebody who works in the industry. My feelings on these 3rd row seats have always been exactly the point you make. Imagine a 30 ton truck locking up on ice while your children stare right at it as it approaches at unabated speed? I was always curious as to how Volvo, of all manufacturers, could in any conscience sell cars fitted with these seats. Of course, Volvos have long been among the safer cars on the road, but they haven't necessarily been the safest, or as safe as Volvo told us they were. Also, these seats are really only useful for short trips. Even for small children, they have to be pretty uncomfortable for any extended period of time. I don't have children, so I'm not sure exactly what constitutes an extended period of time to a four year old, but I seem to remember it being somewhere around 10 minutes...
