About a hell of a lot of years ago, when I lived in Chicago which was run by Strongman Richard Daly, Mayor, and mired in politics, we always looked to California as a wonderful place, flooded with sunshine and devoid of politics. A scant 40 years later you can still freeze your butt off in
Chicago but the place runs pretty darn well. Meanwhile, California has become mired in politics and is being run by little men with gigantic ambitions of being re-elected or at least becoming well-known enough to make good money after they've served their time in the political arena. (Why else would someone pay millions of dollars to take a job that pays $300,000 over its term?) But, here's the good news: Chicago got it's act together in about 40 years and California can do the same. So, we can all look forward to a better future sometime in 2043. That sure as hell makes me feel better; how 'bout you?
Oh, one more thing. We need to find some folks, willing to serve in public office, who come equipped with honor, are honorable, have the ability to see a better future and the skill and conviction to lead the state to that better place. Right now for example, faced with a potentially difficult decision, the legislature turns the problem over to the people as an "initiative." Of course, armed with only hours of truth-slanting TV commercials for knowledge we vote with our hearts. Thirty percent of the eligible voters, voting with their hearts is a lot less effective than one leader pointing the way with his finger.
Afterthoughts: Okay, leaders aren't born they are made and there's no one around to teach us any more. Umm, maybe 2043 was a little optimistic. ;(
