NT,
We have a gas-fueled water heater, which has forced air induction (blower mounted in the air-inlet tract). It is produced by A. O. Smith Water Products Company (from N.C.). I have been consistently impressed at both the speed, with which it recovers after major use (kids splashing in Mom 'n Dad's big bathtub), and its low operating costs. Were I to do it all over again, I would opt for the same type of water heater. The unit is able to recover within about 30 minutes after an almost complete drain, it has never given us one ounce of trouble (nothing). The yellow label on the side lists it average estimated energy consumption at "250" (out of a possible range from 230 to 288), and vaunts an efficiency rating of over %90. I'd look into this type of heater, before you finally decide.
